Economic Development Strategy
An Economic Development Strategy is underway in Sidney and will look at a cross-section of the community’s economic sectors, including:
- Commercial &Retail
The strategy will make recommendations for near-term initiatives that may be undertaken to support the success of the local economy.
Following a competitive bid process done in collaboration with the South Island Prosperity Partnership (SIPP), the strategy is being developed by Vancouver-based Lions Gate Consulting Inc.
The plan is being funded through Canada-BC Safe Restart funds. It scheduled for completion in summer 2022.
Public and stakeholder engagement is an important part of the development of the Economic Development Strategy to ensure it is tailored to local realities and needs.
From February 7th to 28th at 5 p.m., community members are invited to fill out a 5-minute online survey to share their views on current and future economic prospects for Sidney.
Each week, there will be a prize draw among survey respondents with winners receiving a $50 gift certificate to a Sidney business of their choice.
A separate survey will also be distributed among businesses.
In addition to online surveys, the engagement process will include meetings and focus groups with key stakeholders such as the Sidney Business Improvement Area Society, Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Sidney’s Economic Advisory Committee, and SIPP, among others.
