The Arts Council is offering a series of free art classes for seniors on the Arts Centre deck overlooking Bazan Bay the first being Novice Sketching on Thursday, July 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and includes tea and coffee. 12 participants per class. Please register to reserve your spot by calling the Arts Centre at Tulista Park on 250-656-7400. Enjoy an afternoon of art and friendship and take home a piece of art! |

Merchants Against Money Laundering

The RCMP is making a presentation for merchants against money laundering being held on July 23, at 3:00 p.m. at the Mary Winspear Centre. A 45 minute presentation will be delivered by the RCMP Specialized Unit and will give an interesting insight into organized crime and what tools can be employed to fight it's creeping influx. An annual display of paintings by local artists on the Fish Hut at the bottom of Beacon Avenue. Public vote for their favourite by ballot boxes located in the Cannery breezeway, Historical Museum, Laroche Gallery and the Arts Centre in Tulista Park. Nine artists with three winners. Paintings are on display during the months of June, July and August and are for sale. |

The Best Western Emerald Isle Motor Inn brings the excitement of NASCAR home with a special showing of the Best Western #99 Busch Series Show Car on Wednesday, July 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Nascar fans will have the chance to get up close to a replica of the car driven by David Reutimann in April 2008 in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. In addition to photo opportunities, visitors will also be able to see the car in the Canada Day Parade at 11:00 a.m. |
Sidney Day 5k Run and Walk

Peninsula Track and Field Club is hosting a 5K run and walk and a 2K youth run starting at 8:00 a.m. on Bevan Avenue at 7th Street, adjacent to Mary Winspear Centre, and finishing on 8th Street. Pre-registration from 6:45 a.m. Admission is $15 per person, $5 youth and family $2 per person off for more than three applicants.

Family Fun Fair, featuring the Panorama "bouncy castle" to be held in the field adjacent to the Mary Winspear Centre from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., includes the Sidney Rotary Club Games of Chance from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. and back by popular demand - "The Doggonest Dog Show" from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
New for 2009 - The Canada Day Air Band Competition from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Slegg" Build-a-Boat Race " building of the boats to be held in Beacon Park from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. and the launching is at 5:00 p.m.
