The Development Services Department provides service in the areas of Municipal Planning, Building Permits and Inspections, Business Licensing and Bylaw Enforcement. The Department is committed to the delivery of a broad range of high-quality services to residents, businesses, and the development community. Department staff welcome face-to-face meetings to further communicate the goals, policies, and bylaws of the Town of Sidney as they pertain to development in our community.
Planning
Planning combines the functions of current planning and long-range policy planning. Land use, review of new development proposals and the administration of the Zoning Bylaw work together with the implementation of the Official Community Plan to bring a comprehensive approach to addressing issues of community growth and sustainability in Sidney.
Building Permits and Inspections
Building Permits and Inspections is responsible for monitoring building construction in the Town of Sidney by ensuring compliance with the BC Building and Fire Codes. Building Permit and Inspections staff work closely with property owners, developers, the Fire Department and other agencies to promote health, life-safety and fire prevention throughout the community.
Business Licensing
Business Licences for all home-based, commercial, industrial, and non-resident operations based in Sidney are issued by the Development Services Department.
Bylaw Enforcement
The Town of Sidney's Bylaws promote community liveability by maintaining the health, safety and general wellness of the community. Bylaws assist in maintaining community standards in zoning, business licensing, property maintenance, noise and parking.
