Planning combines the functions of current planning and long-range policy planning. Land use, review of new development proposals and the administration of the Zoning Bylaw work together with the implementation of the Town's Official Community Plan to bring a comprehensive approach to addressing issues of community growth and sustainability in Sidney.

Planning staff review and make recommendations to Council regarding Development Permit, Development Variance Permit, Zoning Amendment and Official Community Plan Amendment applications. Planning staff undertake various planning studies and long-range policy planning initiatives, one of which includes reviewing the Town's Official Community Plan. In addition, Planning staff also provide a technical support role to the Advisory Planning Commission.
