Food and water are essential items in any emergency kit because grocery stores may not be open or may be cleaned out of all goods. Each person should have at least two litres of drinking water per day, stored in small, sturdy containers and replaced every six months. Typically, these types of goods are securely stored in a place that is easy to locate in an emergency.
Non-perishable food like canned food, dried goods, and preserves are good choices. However, even these do not last forever, so check expiration dates regularly and replace old items.
Camping food is a simple and relatively healthy choice with a wide selection of dehydrated meals. Check out a local camping or recreation store.
