The following are the 2012 Commissions and Committees established by Council. The duties of these committees are to advise Council on items which have been referred to the Committees by Council. All members are volunteers and have been appointed by Council.

ADVISORY PLANNING COMMISSION

The Commission consists of a maximum of 10 members, plus 1 alternate member. To advise Council on matters and issues regarding community planning and development: land use; Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaws; Development Permit applications; townscapes; long range planning; and environmental and heritage matters.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The Commission consists of 19 members. To advise Council on matters relating to business and economic development and community vitality and sustainability: promoting and enhancing local business; arts and culture; monitoring the progress of commercial and industrial areas; identifying the changing local economic trends and climate; liaising with agencies that promote community development; and seeking and obtaining financial grants/funding.

HEALTHY COMMUNITY COMMISSION

The Commission consists of 18 members. To advise Council on matters and issues relating to the social well-being of the community: recreational and leisure activities; health care; seniors, youth and families; accessible/disability services; food security; and environmental protection and sustainability.

PARKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE

The Committee consists of 5 members. To advise Council on matters relating to public spaces and municipal facilities: parks and green spaces; walking and cycling trails; beach and waterfront access; marinas and harbours; sidewalks, roads and underground utilities; traffic and transportation; and asset management.

PROTECTIVE SERVICES COMMITTEE
