Mervyn Lougher-Goodey

Mervyn’s formative education took place in Ireland and then Victoria where he attended St Michaels and Victoria High School. After graduation from The Royal Military College, Kingston in 1964 with an engineering degree in Civil Engineering, he had a rewarding career in the Canadian Forces in command and senior infrastructure managerial positions. On retirement he got involved in the local community in Ottawa serving on their Heritage Commission and assisting the Humane Society. Mervyn is married to Connie and they have two adult children. A rate payer in Sidney since 1991 and a resident since 1998, Mervyn has been involved in the Sidney and Peninsula community in diverse activities ranging from a founding executive Board member on the Saanich Peninsula Health Association; a 10 year plus volunteer with Beacon Community Services; and Vice Chair of the Victoria Airport Authority to being the chair of the Sidney Environmental and Heritage Advisory Committee and the Chair of the CRD Water Advisory Committee.

Mervyn’s broad general background assists him in the decision making process around the Council table. Mervyn believes it an honour to be one of Sidney’s representatives and particularly enjoys assisting and advising members of the community. He believes he brings a balanced and knowledgeable presence to Council and always has the common future good of the Town of Sidney at the forefront.
