Kenny Podmore

Kenny was born in England and is the son of an ex-Grenadier Guardsman that resulted in the military being a big part of his family. He retired as a Principal Officer with Dudley Social Services in England in 1997. A holder of the Royal Society of Arts Certificate of Professional Competence in both National and International Transport Operations, Kenny was an appointee to The Transport Administrators Society (UK). Kenny found Sidney when he attended the 6th World Town Crier Championship representing his Town of Stafford and has now been a resident for the past 13 years. Kenny is happily married to his lovely wife, Anita, who he met in Sidney.

Kenny quickly got involved with volunteering in our community beginning with Beacon Community Services as a volunteer driver, peer counsellor and home visitor. Since then he has been a very active and enthusiastic participant in many volunteer activities and has been presented with numerous awards for his work in the community including the Hearts of the Community Award Winner for Community Service 2006 and the Peninsula Celebrations Society Community Leader Award 2006. Kenny is a member of the Sidney by the Sea Rotary Club, Past President of the Sidney Rotary Club and the recipient of the Rotary Triple Paul Harris Award and the Rotary International Presidential Citation for Community Service. He is also Past Honorary Chair of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.

It’s been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Sidney as a Town Councillor since 2008. In my effort to make informed decisions at the Council table I have made myself visible and accessible to the community, meeting people and listening to their concerns and ideas, and then communicating them to Council. I am proud to call Sidney my home. I’ve also enjoyed and will continue to initiate many community-building events and initiatives, both as a Councillor and as a community volunteer. What a privilege it is to live and work in this little town with a “big heart”.

Kenny is also proud to hold the position as The Official Town Crier of Sidney.
