Family:
· Steve and his wife, Fiona, have been married for 33 years
Work History:
· Designed and built NASCAR race cars with Canadian Stock Car Products, Toronto, Ontario
· Served as Deputy Bailiff for the 3rd small claims court in the judicial district of York, in Richmond hill, Ontario
· Worked for Air Canada’s air cargo ramp operations at Pearson International Airport , Toronto
· Owned and operated a 220 acre farm in Lisle ,Ontario
· Worked for 15 years with a major public utility, the Vaughan Hydro Electric commission as a technician supervisor. Performed high potential testing and primary/secondary fault locating on high voltage electrical grid distribution systems
· Self-employed in the area of home improvement, estate security and management
Community Service:
· Former Director and President of the Peninsula Soccer Association; worked closely with Council and Town staff to negotiate space for the Sidney Lawn Bowling Club at Iroquois Park while, at the same time, preventing the pending removal of the adjoining soccer field. This was a win-win situation for both Sidney’s seniors and youth.
· Former Member, Director and President of the Sidney Anglers Association; assisted in the ongoing restoration of salmon habitat at Reay Creek. This club stream project is now used as a model for other restoration projects in Canada. During my term as President, the Sidney Anglers were acknowledged and received an award from the federal government for their successful 25 year work in Reay Creek. At this time, I designed and built Sidney’s first wild salmon release pen from which tens of thousands of salmon have been released into the wild.
· Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 37. As an Area Captain, I contribute time to assist with their highly successful Annual Poppy Campaign on the peninsula.
· Member of the Army, Navy & Air force Veterans in Canada, Sidney Unit 302
· Firm supporter of the Sidney Lions Food Bank
Political Involvement:
· November 2008 – elected for a three-year term as a Councillor for the Town of Sidney.
· Acting Mayor October-November 2009, April-May 2010, October-November 2011
Steve has a broad interest in public policy and governance and looks forward to supporting a sustainable and prosperous Sidney. His diverse background gives him the advantage of seeing all sides of an issue. He has often been recognized for his contributions to building a better, more inclusive community and has a long history of volunteerism with non-profit organizations.
