Sidney, BC.; The Town of Sidney has awarded Kerr Wood Leidal (KWL) the contract to undertake design work for renovations to the Reay Creek Dam. The proposed fee is $174,500 plus GST and includes preliminary design, detailed design, development of construction tender documents, and project management. The design work by KWL is expected to be completed at the end of April 2020 with dam renovations potentially to follow between June and September 2020.
The Reay Creek Dam renovation is contingent on the project to clean up Reay Creek Pond, which Transport Canada has designated a Class 1 contamination site with a high priority for action. Transport Canada is tentatively scheduling to remediate Reay Creek Pond in the summer and fall of 2020, as the second phase of the Reay Creek Remediation Project.
The Town of Sidney is committed to working with Transport Canada to facilitate the potential to complete the dam renovation and pond remediation simultaneously in 2020, but also acknowledges challenges that may make this not feasible.
In anticipation of the work on Reay Creek, the Town will be organizing a public information meeting in January of 2020 that will provide project details and an opportunity to have questions answered.
KWL are consulting engineers with an office in Victoria as well as offices in other parts of BC and Calgary. The company has been providing water-engineering services to the municipal infrastructure and resource development fields since 1975. KWL has proposed a multidisciplinary team with Thurber Engineering Ltd.
