Faster internet connection now available throughout Sidney to support business community and residents

Sidney, BC.;

A new gigabit-enabled fibre optic network is now available throughout Sidney. In keeping with the Sidney’s 2019-2022 Strategic Plan, the Town approached service providers in 2020 to improve internet and cellular services throughout the community to support economic vibrancy. This effort resulted in a 2021 agreement with TELUS to connect Sidney to its fibre optic network.

Installation of the fibre optic connection has been underway since late 2021. The construction of the new network was funded and led by TELUS.

“I am pleased to see our community accessing the latest network technology. The new fibre optic network will significantly increase wireless and internet speeds, helping the community attract and retain local businesses. It will also give residents better connection for working and learning remotely, video calls, streaming, gaming and other purposes,” said Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith.

“The Sidney Business Improvement Area supports the creation, establishment, and growth of Sidney's business economy. Having the same kind of internet speeds in Sidney as major cities will be invaluable in helping our community support its growing technological sector, among other businesses,” said Morgan Shaw, Executive Director of Sidney Business Improvement Area Society.

Community members who are interested in the signing up for the service will need to contact TELUS directly at 1-855-595-5588.
