Remembrance Day 2019

Each year on November 11th, the Town of Sidney gathers together to honour and pay tribute to our War Veterans. Below are the details of this year's parade and ceremony.

Parade of Veterans and Remembrance Day Ceremony

  • Parade of Veterans: Begins at 10:20 am, starting at the Mary Winspear Centre
  • Parade Route: Begins at the Mary Winspear Centre, continues along Beacon Ave, left on Second Street, left on Sidney Ave, and ends at the Cenotaph at Sidney Town Hall (see parade route map below)
  • Remembrance Day Ceremony: 10:50 am at the Cenotaph at Sidney Town Hall (2440 Sidney Ave)

The Parade of Veterans will begin at 10:20 am, starting at the Mary Winspear Centre, continuing along Beacon Avenue, and arriving in front of the Cenotaph at Sidney Town Hall (see parade route map below). The Remembrance Day Ceremony will begin at 10:50 am and will include 2 minutes of silence at 11:00 am, a fly past, and wreath laying. The ceremony ends with a March Past & Salute.

Road Closures

  • There will be rolling road closures for the Parade of Veterans from 10:20 am to 10:50 am along the parade route (see map below - the parade route is coloured green).
  • The roads immediately surrounding Town Hall (Mt. Baker Ave, Fourth Street, Sidney Ave, and Third Street) will be closed during the parade and ceremony, from approximately 10:20 am to noon.
  • Fifth Street will be closed to traffic for a short period of time during the march past - steps have been taken to keep traffic impacts on Fifth Street to a minimum.

Town Hall Closed

Sidney Town Hall will be closed for Remembrance Day on Monday, November 11, 2019. There will be no changes to the Garbage/Kitchen Organics and Yard/Garden Waste collection. Monday pick ups will occur as scheduled on November 11, 2019.
