Sidney Celebrates 50 Years as Town


Sidney, B.C.; January 1st, 2017 will mark the 50th Anniversary of re-incorporation for Sidney from a village to a town. To celebrate, Mayor Steve Price and Sidney Council will host an afternoon tea and family fun day at the Mary Winspear Centre. Tickets for the event go on sale through the Winspear ticket office today.

Mayor Price stated, “We want to invite Sidney residents to join us in celebrating this important milestone in our community’s history and to recognize the people and events that have contributed to making Sidney the wonderful place we all call home.”

The tea will begin at 2:00 pm and run until 5:00 pm. Besides a traditional tea provided by Island Culinary Services, there will be games and activities for the kids, a magic show by Murray Hatfield and music by the popular O’Brien Family.

Historic displays and a special anniversary edition of Town Talk will be provided by the Sidney Museum and Archives and the Town of Sidney.

To join the fun and celebration, tickets can be obtained through the Mary Winspear ticket office.
