Sidney Council Adopts New Strategic and Financial Plans

Sidney, BC.; Town of Sidney Council approved the 2019 – 2022 Corporate Strategic Plan at the February 25 Council Meeting, and the 2019-2023 Financial Plan at the February 26 Budget Meeting. This positions Sidney’s Council to move forward with their work for their term of office, which runs from 2018 to 2022.

Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith states, “Both the Strategic Plan and Financial Plan were developed through consideration of the work the Town is already engaged in, building on that, bringing forward new initiatives that members of Council heard are important to our community, and working with the Town’s senior team.  We are confident that these Plans represent the vision of the greater community and will move Sidney forward in a positive way”.

Town Council has approved a Financial Plan for 2019 that results in a moderate municipal tax impact of 3.93% for existing properties.  The net impact of the tax increase on the average residential property is about $56 for the year, or less than $5 per month.

For the first time since 2010, there will be a moderate increase to the Water User rate of $0.23 per thousand gallons.  This increase will have an annual impact of about $5.50 for a user that consumes 6,000 gallons of water per quarter.  In addition, there are small increases to the annual Water and Sewer Parcel Taxes. The increase is $5 for Water, and $5 and $10 for Sewer for strata properties and non-strata properties, respectively.

The 2019 – 2022 Strategic Plan focuses on six overarching goals, which are: Complete Community, Economic Vibrancy, Organizational Excellence, Environmental Stewardship, Community Engagement and Community Infrastructure.  Contained within each of these overarching goals are a series of key action items or projects.  One of the key new projects adopted by Council is a comprehensive review and update of the Official Community Plan, which will take place over the next 18-24 months and involve considerable community engagement.
