Sidney to Host Tourism Vancouver Island Conference in 2017

Sidney, B.C.; Mayor Steve Price is pleased to announce that Sidney will host Tourism Vancouver Island’s 54th Annual Conference in September 2017. Mayor Price and Executive Director of the Mary Winspear Centre, Brad Edgett, made the announcement to delegates at this year’s conference in Ucluelet earlier this month.

“I had the opportunity to attend the conference in Ucluelet and to see firsthand the great energy this event produces and the impact it can have on the community. This is a great thing for Sidney and we must thank Donna Petrie and the Sidney Business Improvement Area Society (Sidney BIA) for taking the initiative to submit their successful proposal to host the conference,” stated Mayor Price.

Executive Director of the Sidney BIA, Donna Petrie discovered the conference had never been held in Sidney in all its 53 years. Therefore, as soon as the opportunity to submit a proposal to host the conference became available, she jumped at the chance. “I thought this was an excellent opportunity to bring Sidney into the spotlight within the local tourism industry. Also, with the new Distillery opening, it would give delegates the chance to rediscover Sidney all over again with our new and exciting offerings.”

The three day conference will take place September 19th to 21st and be held at the Mary Winspear Centre. It will attract 150 to 200 delegates from the Vancouver Island tourism industry. The conference provides attendees with opportunities to network, learn about emerging trends and recognize best practices.
