Take the Community Design Survey!

Sidney 2040 logo

Sidney, BC.; The Town of Sidney is inviting residents, businesses, community organizations and anyone who calls Sidney home to have their say about Sidney's future by taking the Community Design Survey. The survey is one of many community engagement opportunities for the project prior to beginning to draft a new Official Community Plan for Sidney over the summer. The survey will be open until April 18, 2021, on the Town's website at www.sidney.ca/ocp.

The Community Design Survey provides an excellent opportunity for the community to provide input on how Sidney might change over the next few decades. Respondents can provide feedback to the 21 questions covering everything from diversifying what can be built in residential neighbourhoods, building size, neighbourhood amenities, architectural style, the waterfront and environment, enhancement of Sidney's industrial areas and the future of Beacon Avenue. Most of the questions are multiple-choice, but there is an opportunity to provide longer responses for those wanting to provide more detail.

The survey questions result from a "Design Charrette" hosted virtually by the Town from February 23-25, 2021. A charrette is an intensive planning session where residents, designers and other stakeholders collaborate on a vision for the community. Approximately 50 community members and stakeholders attended the charrette, which helped to identify emerging ideas and directions for the future of Sidney. This information is now being shared with the greater community for input through the survey. More detail, including audio clips, from the Design Charrette, are available on the project website.

In addition to the survey, other opportunities for community engagement and participation in the coming weeks include an "OCPizza Night"; a chance for families to gather around the dinner table or friends to gather virtually or in a park and discuss the future of Sidney via a guided workbook. Turn in a completed workbook, and the pizza is on us!  More details on this are coming soon.
