Sidney, B.C.; Sidney Town Council formally adopted the newly created “Strategic Plan 2016 - 2018” at the last Council meeting of 2015 on December 21st.
“The Strategic Plan outlines Council’s priorities for the remainder of our term while focusing on initiatives that will have a long-term, positive impact on the community”; stated Sidney’s Mayor, Steve Price.
During the latter half of 2015, Sidney Council undertook a strategic planning session that considered the community’s current economic, social, environmental and development climate as well as input from residents. The resulting strategic plan outlines three overarching goals that encompass a series of key initiatives to be delivered between 2016 and 2018. The three overarching goals focus on developing a resilient economy, a balanced demographic and a quality living environment.
Some of the initiatives included in the plan have been carried over from the previous year while others are new. For example, ongoing projects include a continued focus on developing attainable, workforce housing and the completion of a new seismically sound community safety building.
New initiatives that Council considers key priorities to enhance Sidney as a thriving, sustainable community include; Beacon Wharf redevelopment, a new skate board park, development of a West Sidney Local Area Plan, and development of downtown public realm design standards.
Sidney’s new Strategic Plan maintains the mission and vision for Sidney established by residents and previous councils but brings it into the present - considering what Sidney looks like today and what it may look like in the future.
