Town of Sidney Seeks New Race Organizer

Seaside Race

Sidney, BC.; The Town of Sidney has announced that they are seeking an event organizer to take over the well-established Sidney Seaside 5k and 8k running race. The race, which began in 2017 as a Canada 150 initiative, has become a well-attended precursor-training race for the Victoria Good Life Marathon given its timing in September and has sold out two years in a row.

Mayor Cliff McNeil-Smith states, “We have already been getting inquiries about the Sidney 5k/8k and the Town wants to let people know that the original race organizer has had to step away. Unfortunately, this means the race won’t happen in 2019 but we are confident that we will find a partner to organizer this popular race for the 2020 season”.

The former race organizer Frontrunners, was key in establishing the foundation for the Sidney Seaside Race which winds its way through the downtown core of Sidney to showcase local landmarks then loops back finishing along the beautiful scenic oceanfront walkway and into Beacon Park.  The course is mainly flat with slight elevation gains, perfect for those seeking a fast course or wishing to complete their first run/walk.

Avid race participants of all ages and abilities along with community partners and sponsors have proven to be supportive of this road race and ensuring it continues within the community. As a result, the Town of Sidney welcomes any proposals from event organizers who wish to add the Sidney Seaside to their roster.
