Update on road conditions and garbage collection in Sidney

The Town of Sidney would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during this period of unusual snowfall and weather conditions that are affecting communities across the Island, including Sidney.

Town crews are working hard throughout the day and into the evenings attempting to keep up with clearing and salting roads and sidewalks. However, due to the thaw and freeze overnight, conditions remain extremely slippery and sides street are impassable in some area.  We encourage residents to use caution while driving or walking around town.

Another 5 to 10 cm of snow is being predicted for today.

As a result, garbage collection may be affected in some areas. Emterra is attempting to maintain their routes but is finding they are not able to collect in some areas due to poor road conditions.  Given the ongoing weather issues, they will not be able to go back to recover these streets.  If you find that your garbage has not been collected by the end of the day we ask residents to hold their garbage until next week.

If you have any questions or concerns you may call the Town of Sidney’s Engineering at 250-656-4502.
