The Nomination Period begins at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 4 and closes at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2018. Nomination documents must be filed with the Chief Election Officer at Town Hall (2440 Sidney Avenue).
Qualifications to Run for Office:
- age 18 or older;
- a Canadian Citizen;
- a resident of BC for at least 6 months; and
- not be disqualified by any statute or law from being nominated, elected or holding office.
Prospective candidates must be nominated by at least two eligible electors from the Town of Sidney. Further information regarding the election of School Trustee (School District No. 63) is available from the Ministry of Education.
Special Candidate Forum (for offices of Mayor and Councillor)
The Town and the District of North Saanich are co-sponsoring a new candidate forum which will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 6:00 pm, at Mary Winspear Centre. The forum will be provided by Mr. Rob Roycroft and will cover topics such as time commitments, compensation, conflict of interest, impact on personal life, decision making, elected officials roles and responsibilities, and a discussion of the complexity of municipal issues.
Special School Trustee Candidate Forum (for School Board Trustee)
Saanich School District No. 63 will host an information meeting to help prospective candidates learn more about public education, School District 63 (Saanich) and the work of a Board of Education. The evening session will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at the School Board Office (2125 Keating Cross Road, Saanichton). Individuals considering running in local elections now have access to resources (educational videos, brochures, etc.) that provide information about the general expectations and the roles and responsibilities of elected officials. These new resources will help people to make informed decisions about running for government office.
