The Official Town Crier represents the Town of Sidney at significant municipal or other functions involving the Town, particularly as means of welcoming agencies/dignitaries. The regalia worn by the Town Crier is one of a nautical theme and incorporates the Town’s official colors of blue and gold.  This appointment is made by Council and the present Official Town Crier is Kenny Podmore.

In May 2006, the Town of Sidney was pleased to be the host of a seven-day World Town Crier Invitational Competition with 26 participants representing England, Australia, USA, Belgium and Canada.  In 1997 and 1999 the Town of Sidney also hosted two very successful World Town Crier Championship Tournaments which were well attended and helped to establish friendships all over the world.
