Appointed by Council, the Official Town Crier represents the Town of Sidney at significant municipal or other functions involving the Town, particularly as means of welcoming agencies/dignitaries. The regalia worn by the Town Crier is one of a nautical theme and incorporates the Town’s official colors of blue and gold. 

The Honourary Town Crier also represents the Town of Sidney at significant functions, however only upon the request of Mayor and Council. Mr. Bert Stevens was the Town Crier for over 12 years and in 2004 was appointed the Honourary Town Crier for the Town.

In May 2006, the Town was pleased to be the host of a seven-day World Town Crier Tournament with 26 participants representing England, Australia, USA, Belgium and Canada.
