Public Art in Beacon Park

Beacon Park is now home to a new public art installation of two sculptures. The inclusion of public art in the park complements the recent improvements in the park, including the new pavilion performance venue and the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre tidepool feature, and enhances the park as a community gathering place. The dog-walker sculpture is installed in the southwest corner of the park, close to the Pier Hotel, and the pirate sculpture is on the east side of the park near the waterfront walkway.

The Town had advertised a Request for Expressions of Interest in early 2009 to local artists who were interested in creating public art for the park, and the response from the local arts community was highly positive. The selected artist was Jake James, a blacksmith artist. The sculptures were unveiled on Friday October 16th, 2009.
