Dog Licences

All dogs over the age of six months must be licensed in the Town of Sidney.  Once licensed, your dog will be issued a permanent tag and a new decal each year you renew the licence.

Etched on the tag is a 24/7/365 phone number that will help reunite you with your dog, if it ever becomes lost.  Every year, many dogs are quickly reunited with their owners because they were found wearing a current dog tag.  Many of these reunions occurred without requiring a trip to the Pound or payment of an impound fee.  Having a current dog licence is simply the fastest way to reunite you with your dog, if it ever strays from home.

Dog licences must be renewed annually, and are valid for the calendar year from January to December. The Town will send out renewal notices each December.  You will receive a $5.00 discount when you renew before the last working day in February.

To register for a new dog licence, please complete the Town's Dog Licence Form, and email it to finance@sidney.ca. Once your dog account has been set up, payment can be made online. Renewal dog licences can be paid online. Only dogs residing in Sidney require a licence from the Town of Sidney.

The annual cost of a dog licence is:

You can access information about your dog account through our online service MySidney.  Registration is easy – first, create a MySidney profile using your email; then, add your Town of Sidney accounts (e.g. dog licence, property tax, utility bill) to your profile.  To register, you will need your account number and access code, which can be found on your dog licence renewal notice.

All complaints regarding animals, including dogs, should be brought to the attention of the CRD Animal Control at 250-478-0624 or after hours at 1-800-884-0919.

Payment Options

• Online – Pay online using your Visa or MasterCard.  When paying for a dog licence renewal, you will need the account number and access code, which can be found on your renewal notice. To register and pay for a new dog licence, please telephone the Finance Department at 250-656-1184 to have an account set up.
  
  
• By Mail – Cheques are accepted by mail.  Please send to:

• At Municipal Hall – 2440 Sidney Ave, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.  We accept Visa, MasterCard, debit, cheque and cash.  There is also a drop-box located at the main entrance to Town Hall available 24/7; please do not deposit cash in the drop-box.

If you paid online, by mail or via the drop-box, your new dog decal will be mailed to you once the payment has been processed.
