Acceptable Materials:  Organic materials, substances or objects including, but not necessarily limited to, grass, lawn and hedge clippings, grass sod, flowers, weeds, leaves, vegetable stalks, shrubs, and shrub and tree branches less than 3 inches in diameter.  For collection purposes, branches up to 3 feet long and tied in bundles, not exceeding the equivalent volume of an 80L garbage can are acceptable.

Unacceptable Materials:  Morning glory, blackberry, wild mustard, ox-eye daisy, wild carrot, couch grass, poison hemlock, and all Invasive Species plants.

PLEASE NOTE:  the Capital Regional District (CRD) has banned kitchen organics and yard waste from the Hartland Landfill.  We therefore ask that you please ensure that such materials are not deposited in with the regular household garbage.  The Town’s Contractor, Emterra Environmental, is not required or expected to collect household garbage containing prohibited materials.

Recycling

Blue box/bag recycling is a CRD run program, paid for through Hartland Landfill Tipping Fees.  This program is not paid for through your property taxes, nor is it administered by the Town of Sidney.  Collection is biweekly curbside service, with items out by 7am.  The current schedule is every other Monday.  To avoid recycling box contamination and to see what is and isn't accepted in your blue box, follow these simple rules.  For additional information, queries, or complaints, please contact the CRD’s Contractor, Emterra Environmental at 250-385-4399 or visit their office at 304 John St in Victoria.  For general recycling queries, the CRD Recycling Hotline can be reached at 250-360-3030.

If you are a Sidney resident in need of a replacement blue box or bag, you may obtain such items from the CRD’s Contractor, Emterra Environmental at 304 John St in Victoria, or the Town of Sidney Municipal Hall Engineering Department.  Town Staff have agreed to carry a small supply of blue boxes and bags as a courtesy to our Sidney residents only.  You will be required to provide your address upon pick up.
