During Canada's Centennial year, in 1967, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McVey travelled from Sidney, BC to Sydney, Nova Scotia collecting soil samples from across the country. These samples were used to plant a Canadian Maple Tree on the lawn of Sidney's Town Hall where it remains to this day. The tree planting was sponsored by the Sidney Rotary Club and overseen by then Mayor, Arthur Freeman and Rotary President John Bruce. Relatives of the McVey's including their grandchildren will meet with Mayor Price at the tree for a gathering in remembrance of that day.
