Canada 150 is a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate and be involved with this milestone in our country's history. The events associated with Sidney Celebrates Canada 150 will give volunteers an opportunity to be a part of something special in our community that will leave a legacy and create memories for years to come.

All volunteers will be provided with a Canada 150 / Sidney 50 Volunteer t-shirt and ID tag and there will be a wrap up party at the end of the season. 

A volunteer information and recruitment session will take place Tuesday, March 14th at 6:00 pm in the Arbutus Room at the Town Hall.

Vancouver Island Comic Con takes place on Sunday, June 11th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Volunteers are required pre-event and day of for:

 Volunteer   Duties
Cosplay Competition    Assist with the Cosplay Competition including registration desk, stage setup and photo booth.
Cosplay Judges   Review judging guidelines, take part in judging
Games Master   Coordinate gaming competition
Set up    Set up tables, assist vendors with finding their space, loading and unloading instructions and general assistance to ensure the day runs smoothly
Front Door   Working in teams of 2 on 2 hr shifts, be available at the front door to take tickets, hand out programs and answer questions
Advertising team   Help distribute flyers and posters around the Greater Victoria Area
Social media team   Maintain regular posts, updates and news on social media channels
Photographers   Ensure the event is well documented, take photos at cosplay booth
Photographers Assistant   Track and ID cosplay photos
Videographer   Document the days events for post promotion and possible future convention promotion
 Website   Assist with website design and updates


Paint the Town Red & White Street Party
takes place on Saturday, June 24 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Beacon Avenue. The event will include live music, games, a beer garden and food trucks. Volunteers are required to:

Volunteer   Duties
Manager barricades   working in groups of 2, ensure traffic does not attempt to enter the street dance footprint
Security   General assistance on the street to answer questions from the public and assist Town staff when needed

 

Children's Carnival takes place on Sunday, June 25 from 10:00 am to noon in Beacon Park. The event will include games, entertainment, and the "Best Canadian Spirit Costume Competition". Volunteers are required pre-event and the day of:

Volunteer   Duties
 Coordinator   Oversee the organization of the event with the assistance of the Anniversary Coordinator and Town of Sidney staff
Costume competition coordinator   Establish guidelines and judging for the competition, organize prizes
Assistant   General assistant to help with organzing games, prizes and promotion

 

Dinner en Rouge takes place on Sunday, June 25 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in Beacon Park. The event is a formal outdoor dinner party held in Beacon Park. Volunteers are required to:

Volunteer   Duties
Hosts   Working in groups of 2, collect tickets and assist guest with finding their reserved seating
Photographers assistant   Provide assistance to photographers
