What You Can Do

The Town of Sidney is committed to climate action and environmental sustainability, but you can help make difference as we work towards becoming a more resilient and lower carbon community together.

Opportunities to take action on climate change or get involved in environmental initiatives will be shared here.

Learn About Your Personal Climate Impact

The 2022 Climate Action Plan contains a number of opportunities for community members to take action on climate change. However, the relative impact of these actions will depend on your existing lifestyle. Are you vegetarian, but drive a gas car every day? Swapping to an e-bike (or e-trike!) might be a great opportunity for you. Do you walk everywhere, but have a home powered by fossil fuels? Switching to a heat pump could make a big difference to our community's overall emissions.

Want to learn about your biggest opportunities for reducing emissions? Try out the personal greenhouse gas calculator developed by the District of Saanich. Then, check out the "What You Can Do" actions from the Climate Action Plan for ideas on where to start. You can find a summary of these actions here. Some examples include:

Host Your Own Stewardship Event

Do you have an idea to protect, rehabilitate, clean, or enhance the natural environment here in Sidney? Maybe you want to lead an invasive species pull, beach clean-up, or plant some trees? First, make sure to give our Stewardship Event Guide a read so you know how to get started.

Whether you already have a full plan developed for your initiative or are still in the brainstorming phase, we want to hear from you! The Town of Sidney has some resources that could help to support your initiative.

We would also love it if you would be willing to send us some pictures of your successful event so we can share your hard work with the community.
