People considering running in local elections now have access to resources (education videos and a brochure) that provide information about the general expectations and the roles and responsibilities of elected officials.  These new resources will help people to make informed decisions about running for government office. 

Thinking of Running for Local Office?

If you are interested in running for office of Mayor (1 elected), Councillor (6 elected) or School Trustee (1 elected), Nomination Packages will be made available on Friday, July 27.  

Persons qualified to run for office must be:

  • age 18 or older;
  • a Canadian Citizen;
  • a resident of BC for at least 6 months; and
  • not be disqualified by any statute or law from being nominated, elected or holding office.

Prospective candidates must be nominated by at least two eligible electors from the Town of Sidney. 

Individuals interested in running for School Trustee (School District No. 63) can obtain more information from the Ministry of Education.

      Who May Run for Office

The Nomination Period begins at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 4 and closes at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 14. Nomination documents must be filed with the Chief Election Officer at Town Hall.
