Voter Registration

The Town utilizes the Provincial Voters List for conducting its election.  To confirm you are on the List, please contact the Town at 250-656-1139 or admin@sidney.ca. 

Voter's Guide

New registrations will be accepted on voting day. To register as a resident or non-resident elector, you must meet the following qualifications: 

Resident Electors:

  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a resident of the Town of Sidney for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Resident Electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove both residency and identity.

Non-Resident Property Electors: 
(if you own property in Sidney, but live in another jurisdiction)

  • 18 years of age or older; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration; and
  • a registered owner of real property in the Town of Sidney for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration; and
  • not eligible to register as a resident elector of the Town of Sidney; and
  • the only persons who are registered owners of the real property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, are individuals who are not holding the property in trust for a corporation or another trust; and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election and not otherwise disqualified by law; and
  • if there is more than one registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the owners, register as a non-resident property elector.

Non-Resident Property Electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identify, proof of property ownership (by providing copy of state of title certificate, property tax notice or property assessment notice) and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners. This consent must be provided at the time of registration. 

Acceptable Identification:

  • BC Driver’s Licence
  • BC Identification Card
  • BC Services Card 
  • Social Insurance Card
  • Citizenship Card
  • Owner’s Certificate of Insurance & Vehicle Licence
  • State of Title Certificate 
  • Real Property Tax  Notice
  • BC Property Assessment Notice
  • Credit Card or Debit Card issued by a bank
  • Utility Bill (water, electrical, gas)
