Councillor Peter Wainwright
Peter Wainwright has fifteen years municipal government experience having served previously on Sidney Council from 1993 to 2008.
Peter is a scientist who holds a BSc Honours Degree from Dalhousie University. He is currently an environmental consultant. His professional career includes extensive work in various areas of environmental studies and projects, senior GIS Analyst and strategist, project management and working with First Nations to name only a few. He has also written and co-authored numerous publications and reports namely regarding environmental studies and assessments and marine research and studies.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Peter moved to Sidney 29 years ago. Since arriving in Sidney, he has worked on several boards and committees including, most recently as President of the Sidney Museum and Archives. He has also been the President of the BC Library Trustees Association, a Trustee for the Malahat Economic Trust and involved with Smart Cities and the Ecology Action Centre.
Some of Peter’s previous council appointments included CRD Alternate and Parks Committee Director; Commissioner for the Saanich Peninsula Water Commission, CRD Water Commission, Chairman for the Saanich Peninsula Wastewater Commission and Vancouver Island Regional Library.
