Patio Licences

Food vending businesses wishing to operate a patio on a public street or sidewalk adjacent to their business must obtain a Patio Licence.

The Town of Sidney has two categories of Patio Licences:

  • Simple Patio: moveable furniture and objects for the seating and serving of customers as an extension of a food vending business, which are placed on a sidewalk and removed daily when the patio is closed for business. A simple patio may include semi-permanent accessibility features that are not removed daily.
  • Complex Patio: semi-permanent structures, furniture or objects constructed or placed on a street or a sidewalk for the queuing, seating and serving of customers as an extension of a food vending business, and which are not removed daily.

Additional information can be found in the Town’s:

To apply for a Patio Licence:

  1. Fill out a Patio Licence Application form
  2. Provide plans and details of the proposed patio showing:
    – the area to be occupied
    – the location and type of all furniture, structures or objects that will be placed within the area

Your completed application form and plans can be submitted to engineeringservices@sidney.ca.

Staff will review your application and will let you know if any additional information is required.
