Filming in Sidney

Sidney’s waterfront and quaint streetscapes make it a popular location for filming. The Town recognizes that filming in the community brings economic, cultural and social benefits. Please find information for planning a filming project in Sidney below.

To apply for a filming permit please submit a Film Permit Application. It may also be necessary to submit a Temporary Street Use Application.

Please note that the Town of Sidney is adjacent to Victoria International Airport.

If you wish to fly a done/UAV for filming, please work directly with Transport Canada to ensure you are following Canada’s aircraft regulations and have the required permits.

Sidney Business Improvement Association Society:

The Sidney Business Improvement Association (BIA) Society  is an excellent source of local information regarding filming in Sidney. The BIA can provide information about production office space, unique locations, hotels, catering, parking, security, and more.

Vancouver South Island Film Commission:

The Vancouver Island South Media and Film Commission offers a full range of services for producers and companies interested in filming in the Greater Victoria area, including the Town of Sidney. The Commission offers production and location services, such as script breakdown, scouting, and surveys.

In addition, the Commission can assist with obtaining film permits and can provide information regarding local trade unions, guilds, labour rates, studio facilities, post-production facilities, and suppliers.
