Dogs

There are many cherished dogs in Sidney and no end to beautiful walking routes for pets and their families to enjoy.

It is important to note that:

  • Dogs must remain on leash in all public places in Sidney, except for the off-leash dog park, Peter Grant Park.
  • All dogs over the age of six months must be licensed in the Town of Sidney.

All dogs over the age of six months must be licensed in the Town of Sidney.  Once licensed, your dog will be issued a permanent tag and a new decal each year you renew the license. The tag includes a 24-hour phone number that can help reunite lost pets with their owners.

Dog licenses must be renewed annually, and are valid for the calendar year from January to December. You will receive a $5.00 discount when you renew before the last working day in February.

To register for a new dog license, please complete the Town’s Dog Licence Form and email it to finance@sidney.ca.

Once your dog account has been set up, payment can be made online.

You can access information about your dog account through our online service MySidney

Registration is easy – first, create a MySidney profile using your email; then, add your Town of Sidney accounts (e.g. dog license, property tax, utility bill) to your profile.

  • Online  Pay online using your Visa or MasterCard.  When paying for a dog license renewal, you will need the account number and access code, which can be found on your renewal notice. To register and pay for a new dog license, please telephone the Finance Department at 250-656-1184 to have an account set up.
  • By Mail – Cheques are accepted by mail.  Please send to:

  • At Municipal Hall – 2440 Sidney Ave, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.  We accept Visa, MasterCard, debit, cheque and cash.  There is also a drop-box located at the main entrance to Town Hall available 24/7; please do not deposit cash in the drop-box.

If you paid online, by mail or via the drop-box, your new dog decal will be mailed to you once the payment has been processed.

The Town of Sidney does not have an animal shelter and contracts out this service to the CRD.  Other resources which assist people in finding their pets as soon as possible, should they go missing, include:
