Low tides and warm temperatures are causing an unpleasant odor that can be mistaken for sewage. This is the result of seaweed and algae breaking down and releasing gasses. It is an annual occurrence and smells can linger for 2-3 weeks. Water quality is tested regularly throughout the summer.

The Town of Sidney offers a local Driver Services branch, located at 9884 Third Street, in the Court House building behind the Town Hall and Beacon Community Services.

  • Knowledge testing for Passenger/Commercial Vehicle and Motorcycle Learners Licenses – Cut off for testing is 3:00 pm.
  • Enhanced Road Assessments for seniors (Available twice per month.  Book an appointment by calling 250-978-8300. Please note: this is the only road testing we offer.)
  • B.C. Identification cards
  • B.C. Services Cards – new and renewal
  • Change of address
  • Traffic Fines processing – payments or disputes
  • Driver/Rider/Commercial/Recreational Trailer towing manuals available
