Low tides and warm temperatures are causing an unpleasant odor that can be mistaken for sewage. This is the result of seaweed and algae breaking down and releasing gasses. It is an annual occurrence and smells can linger for 2-3 weeks. Water quality is tested regularly throughout the summer.

The Town’s Public Works department is responsible for water, sanitary sewers, storm drains and ditching in Sidney.

In the event of a problem involving water, sewer, or drainage on private property, please contact a plumber. In the event of a problem on public property involving water, sewer, or drainage, Town staff are on call 7 days/week and 24 hours/day to deal with emergencies.
