Council approves renewed 10-year Canada Community-Building Fund Agreement
The Town of Sidney has renewed a 10-year Canada Community-Building Fund Agreement, ensuring predictable federal funding will continue to be available to for the Town to invest in essential infrastructure.

The total expected funding for the Town from the Canada Community-Building Fund over the next five years is $3.17M, with more than $600,000 made available each year. The Town also has $2.4M remaining from the previous Canada Community-Building Fund agreement.

Since 2005, the Town has used over $6.9M from the fund, including recent repairs to Bevan Fishing Pier and contributions to the turf fields at Blue Heron Park. The Town of Sidney chooses how the money is invested, from an expanding list of eligible uses, ensuring projects meet the policy goals of both the Town and the federal government.

Council commits $2,500 to sponsorship of South Island Powwow
In recognition of the fourth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Council will be providing a $2,500 sponsorship to the South Island Powwow to be held at Victoria’s Royal Athletic Park on September 30th. In July, the Town also provided $3,500 to the annual Honouring Wətanmy Powwow, held at the Tsartlip Soccer Field in Central Saanich.

Both contributions are funded through the annual $10,000 budget Council established in 2024 to support events and initiatives in the region that help preserve First Nations culture and support reconciliation.
