This summer and fall, the Town will be making improvements to McDonald Park Road between Mills Road and the Sandown Park Shopping Centre. These upgrades will refresh the roadway and make the area safer, especially for pedestrians walking between parked cars and nearby businesses.
The need for these improvements was identified by community members during the engagement period of the West Side Local Area Plan.
Key changes
- The road will be fully repaired and resurfaced to improve driving conditions.
- The roadway will be widened, with a curb installed and parking clearly organized as parallel parking.
- New sidewalks will be added along the east side of McDonald Park Road, along with new pedestrian crossings with flashing beacons.
Timing
Work is expected to take place from June through November.
Traffic impacts
- The road is expected to remain open throughout construction.
- Short-term closures may be needed during certain stages of work.
- At times, access may be limited to local traffic only.
- The Town will work directly with property owners and businesses if there are any interruptions to driveway access.
Project updates
Updates will be shared throughout construction.
Funding
Road repair and resurfacing costs will be shared with the District of North Saanich, which is responsible for the west side of McDonald Park Road.
Additional funding is being provided through the Canada Community Building Fund.
