The Town has been working in stages to replace the watermain on Weiler Avenue. From late-May through to the end of August 2026, work will be underway between Muriel Place and just west of Maryland Drive.
Overview
This project involves installing a new watermain and water services using a traditional open-cut construction method. The current watermain, installed in 1957, has experienced several leaks and breaks in recent years.
This work is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve critical infrastructure. Replacing aging watermains helps ensure the community has:
- A more reliable drinking water supply
- Increased resilience to seismic events
- Enhanced fire protection capacity
- Reduced risk of future leaks and service disruptions
Impacts
During the course of the project, there will be construction activity on Weiler Avenue with traffic control in place as needed to protect worker and public safety. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
On-street parking will be restricted along sections of Weiler Avenue.
Water service will generally remain uninterrupted; however, brief outages may occur toward the end of the project as homes are being connected to the new system. Residents will receive advance notice of any interruptions.
Important water pressure information for Weiler Ave residents in work area
Homes within the work area shown below will receive new water services, including a dual check valve (and in some cases a new water meter).
The dual check valve prevents water from flowing backward from homes into the municipal water system during pressure changes, helping to protect Sidney’s drinking water.
Because this valve prevents water from flowing back out, pressure can build up inside a home’s plumbing system when water is heated. For this reason, homeowners are encouraged to ensure their hot water system includes a thermal expansion tank, which helps prevent excess pressure from straining plumbing.
