Proposed Off-Leash Dog Enclosure in Iroquois Park or Tulista Park

When Sidney developed its Parks Master Plan in 2018, residents highlighted the need for a dedicated fenced green space where dogs could run off-leash, particularly in East Sidney.

Since then, community members have continued to raise this request. On  July 21 2025, Council passed a motion for an off-leash dog area to be considered for Iroquois Park as part of the 2026 budget deliberations.

Throughout the month of September, the Town sought feedback on this proposal. The feedback was presented to Council on November 10 2025.

The Town received 59 letters from the public:

  • 32 in support of the proposal
  • 22 opposed
  • 5 neutral

Given some concerns raised by the community about the suitability of Iroquois Park, Council asked staff to return with a similar concept for a pocket dog park at Tulista Park to compare these two possible locations.

The dog park would be a small enclosed area as shown below, and could have a separated area for large and small dogs.
